Newman Dry Goods was started in 1872 by A.A. Newman. He started by freighting goods to the Indian Agencies in the Indian Territory, but his first store was at 205 S. Summit. He ended up moving six times and having seven stores over time due to his store's rapic growth. The final store was at 400 S. Summit. The store was open until October 1987.
