Col.J.P. Johnson has a magnificent story.Johnson, a native of Arkansas City, fought in the Pacific during WWII. He fought in the China-Burma- India theater. Before the war he was on Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railway shop employee. After the capture of Manila, he piloted the first train into manila, which also had Gen. Douglas MacArthur on it. In 1945, he returned to the area for a visit before moving to Alaska to a postion appointed to him by the secretary of the interior.
