Ethel Childers was an amazing woman. She began her career as a stenographer. She originated in the Chanute area, but moved to Bartlesville, Ok where she worked as a liason between the oil companies and the Native Americans in regard to oil rights. She was admitted to the bar in 1913 with the ability to practice in Kansas and Oklahoma. She came to Arkansas City to work for Kanotex Oil in 1918 where she became known nationwide for her work.

Ethel was quite an adventurer as well. She took hunting trips all over the country hunting bear and other large game animals. Childers was also known for starting the Creswood addition.
