Mr. A.A. Newman came to Arkansas City,1872.He had many stores and sold good in the country east of town. The last store was a 3 story building.Sold all kind of items,except food. At Christmas the 3rd floor was all decorated for Christmas and toys and Santa Clause.Don't know when that was started.
It is was closed in 1987. Diane and Greg Kelly bought it and moved their business there,The First Intermark. Still there.They have fixed the building with care to keep it as much like the original.
I bought my first high heels there in the newman Department Store.bluebird Very Happy
