The town of Dexter is east Of Arkansas City about 20 miles. The only robbery we know of was the Dalton gang. Right at this moment not sure of the date. had not heard this.bluebird

Just something I ran across doing some research. I found this site:
http://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/
You can search through old newspapers. I found that if you sort them into chronological order for a year you get a sort of history that you won't read in the history books.
Take a look at
http://www.okgenweb.org/~oklogan/clippings/clippings3.htm
I posted that last yesterday. Looks like I still need to do a little cleanup on it.

A BOLD RAID
And a Big Haul Made by Robbers In Dexter
Kansas Bank
Arkansas City Kan Sept 10-
News was received here of a bold raid
made this afternoon on the bank at
Dexter Kansas
At 1:35 o-clock Cashier Watkins was
alone in the bank. Two men with their
face concealed behind masks entered
the side door and withdrawn pistols
commanded the cashier to hand out the
money in the cash drawer and safe.
The cashier showed reluctance In
obeying but a bullet which went whiz-
zing past his head from a revolver per-
suaded him to obey and he handed out
$3,000 In currency. The robbers quickly
mounted their horses and rode away.
The shot fired attracted the attention
of the people on the street in the vicin-
ity of the bank, but before they could
locate the shot the robbers escaped.
A posse immediately started in pur-
suit of the bandits.
The Cashiers name is J. W. Watkins if it helps anyone.
