I have talked to a local rancher several years ago and he said it was done all the time to have better grass for the Texas cattle. One instance I was told that a rancher had cattle here in the kansas-ok. area and the banker closed the doors and took the money. The rancher in Texas had a man watching his cattle here and was notified there was no money to operate with.he came up and went to the bankers house.the wife said he was to sick to talk. The rancher went into bedroom and told the banker he wanted his money.Banker said he was to sick, but the rancher convinced him ohterwise.he rolled over and reached under the bed and pulled out a box with the money.Rancher took his money.Bluebird

Cherokee Strip Livestock Association
The Cherokee Strip Livestock Association leased the Cherokee Outlet from the Cherokee up until the 1880s. They leased the entire 600,000 acres of land, grazing over 300,000 cattle there until the President of the US, Benjamin Harrison, created the Cherokee Commission to begin negotiations with the Cherokee for the purchase of the outlet so that it could be opened up to settlement.
