Fifth Avenue Opera House Empty Fifth Avenue Opera House

The Fifth Avenue Opera House was organized by investors on April 22, 1887. The group invested $50,000 into the building. These men were A.A. Newman, C.R. Sipes, Jos. Sherburne, L.E. Woodin, S. Matlack, Frank J. Hess and A.B. Johnson. The building was located at 225 East Fifth Avenue where the Rec Center is today. The building was beautiful and seated 1,500 people. It opened the fall of 1888. Some of the entertainment that occured there were: John Philip Sousa's band, vaudeville performances, plays and various musicians.
