Mr. A.A. Newman came to Arkansas City,1872.He had many stores and sold good in the country east of town. The last store was a 3 story building.Sold all kind of items, except food. At Christmas the 3rd floor was all decorated for Christmas and toys and Santa Clause.Don't know when that was started.

It is was closed in 1987. Diane and Greg Kelly bought it and moved their business there,The First Intermark. Still there. They have fixed the building with care to keep it as much like the original.

I'm interested in finding "Five Years a Cattleman" by Benjamin S. Miller. At the end of his book "Mid-American Frontier" he says he plans to write the sequel named above. His forst book is from his leaving home and going to Kansas and becoming a cattle rancher. It ends just at the beginning of the CSLSA. His second book covers the CSLSA years. I don't know that he ever got around to writing it, but sure hope so. I don't see it anywhere on Amazon. Anyone got any better ideas?

Some used cars ,wagons, or trucks to sell the liquor. Some made it and stored in pint or quart glass jars and sold to other bootleggers and thought they were hiding it from the law.But the law always found it,or thought they had. There was always another hiding place .ummm bluebird
